General Information

The Fort Collins Archery Association holds weekly 3D shoots every Wednesday evening from May through August. Targets are life-size, three-dimensional foam replicas of game animals from around the world. Each target will have two shooting position markers, one for compound bows and one for traditional bows. PeeWee shooters and those not shooting for score ("hunter" class) may shoot from any safe distance.

Classes

For 2008, we are introducing a Lewis Class System for our 3D shoots. This will make it possible for many more people at all levels of ability to participate in the payback. Because of the introduction of the Lewis Class System, there will be only two shooter classes:

There are some very good shooters who participate in our Wednesday Night 3D league. While it's fun just to be there and shoot and know that half your entry fee is going to support the shoots (3D targets are really expensive), it's probably the case that some shooters see the other half of their financial contribution primarily as a mechanism to fund paybacks for the top shooters. This year we're going to spread the wealth around.

The Lewis class system uses final scores to self-select sub-classes or flights for payback. For each session, all shooters who have shot at least three times will be elibible for a payback. The sum of each shooter's top three scores will be used to create an ordered list of all shooters within the class, from highest top three scores to lowest top three scores. This ordered list will then be divided into several flights and there will be winners within each flight. Flight size and the number of places paid will depend on the total number of eligible shooters within each class; there will be well-defined procedures for assigning tie scores that cross a flight boundary to a common flight, either higher or lower. As an example, if a class has 30 eligible shooters it might be divided into three flights, with 1st and 2nd place finishers in each flight receiving a payback. All top finishers will received the same payback proportion; in other words, 1st place in the highest flight will pay the same as 1st place in the lowest flight.

In summary, there will be two classes of shooters (compound and traditional) and finishers in each class will be divided by score into several flights ( or sub-classes), and each flight will pay one or more of the top finishers within that flight.
